The husband and wife team of Clive and Sue Stilwell have won the final Farrington Park Open competition. The Mixed Autumn Open, played last Sunday, saw forty mixed pairs from around the South West compete in the ¾ handicap Stableford Better Ball Competition.
Clive and Sue set the pace early on with an amazing score of 45 points from the Enmore Park pair of Alan Vickery and Stephanie Bristow on 43. It wasn’t until the very last group of the day that the Wells pairing of Mike Metcalfe and Kath Levell came closest to the Stilwells with 44 points. All of the visitors commented on how good the greens were and how the fast pace had made them extremely tricky.

Farrington Park Ladies
42 Farrington Park Ladies took part in Mara’s Morning, a qualifying Stableford competition, on Thursday, 3rd September. The Trophy was won by Lally Gibson with 37 points, second was Paddy Hunt with 35 points on countback, June Symonds was third, also with 35 points, and Min Woodward fourth, with 34 points. Lally achieved a handicap reduction.
Claire Salter was in the zone during Saturday’s Stableford competition. Claire took first place, recording an excellent score of 43 points in a round which included two birdies. Her handicap was reduced by 2.4 shots as a result. Jackie Walker continued her consistent game of recent weeks, coming second with 38 points. Jane Ball had the only two spot of the competition on the fifth hole, scoring 35 points to take third place, beating Wendy Butt on countback. Farrington Park Ladies were successful at the Weston-super-Mares’s Ladies Open (an individual qualifying Stableford competition) on the 8th September. Sue Stilwell led the field with 38 points and achieved a handicap reduction. Mandy Hobbs came in third with 34 points.
On the 10th September, 24 Ladies played in the EWGA monthly medal on Ladies Thursday morning. Rosi Brown took first Silver with nett 77, Pauline Young second Silver nett 82. In the Bronze division, Linda Rogers won with a nett 72, Claire Salter followed up her successful weekend and came in second with a nett 73. Third was Sandra Hares with a nett 75. In the last two Ladies Thursday mornings, four Coppers (ladies new to golf) have featured in the prizes. Congratulations to Lally, Paddy, Linda and Sandra for their brilliant results. 2015 has already been a successful year for the Coppers, many have walked away prize winners.
Farrington Park Men
The Saturday Stableford was played on 5th September. A good turn out for the Saturday Stableford with autumn in the air, John Hogg topped Division One with 39 points, followed by Nigel Denham, in second, with 38 points, beating Rob Sharpe into third on countback. In Division Two a good score from Steve Ball continuing his good form with 41 points took first place, with Des Deane in second, with 37 points and Nigel Punchard in the money for the first time, with 36 points.
The Sunday Medal was played on 6th September in autumn sunshine and little wind, great conditions. Chris Shanks topped Division One with an excellent score of 69–66, followed by Max Stone Champion, Tom Snelling, with 85–72, beating Danny Farnen into third place on countback, with a score of 74–72. In Division Two, a good day for Trevor Dale with a 86–71 topping the charts with Paul Goddard in second with 96–73 and Cam Goudie in third, with 91–75.
