Prosecco, a cream tea and fun games were the order of the day on Pauline Young’s Captain’s Day at Farrington Park Golf Club.
The event was complimented by a beautiful sunny late spring day. The theme of the day was “Bad taste” and many of the players took the opportunity to dress up in the most bizarre, colourful and laughable clothing. All of which contributed towards making the day very enjoyable. Jan Mahoney and Lesley Stone won the best “Bad Taste” with an interesting array of underwear worn outside their clothing!
The putting competition on the six-hole putting green was won by Gill Russell with 11 shots, which included a hole in one!
The “Lady Captain’s Spoon” competition held on the Duchy course was a Bowmaker with the two best scores to count on every hole.
The winning team, Pauline Brixey, Liz Thomas and Hayley Bullock amassed a brilliant score of 81 points, second was Min Woodward, Lena Warren and Jenny Ahlberg with 73 points, third was Jenny Howarth, Corinne Durban and Celia Widdowson with 72 points on count back from Kath Cox, Jill, Holland and Kerry Pawley. Fifth place was Lesley Stone, Jan Corbett and Wendy Collins with 70 points on count back.
Pauline’s Captain’s Charity of the Year is Refuge – For Women and Children Against Domestic Violence. Thanks to the generosity of the Section a£325 was raised on the day.
Vice-Captain Jackie Willcox thanked Pauline for organising the day on behalf of everyone and presented her with a gift of a garden voucher and wine.
