Congratulations to Mike Metcalfe who finished 3rd with a gross 75 (nett 67) at Tall Pines in the SGU Seniors’ County Championship.

Mike’s super round was good enough to finish tied 1st with Neil Holbrook from Mendip Spring in the nett. He still holds the course record at Wells for the lowest gross score of 67, which he achieved during the Seniors’ Championship.

The Senior Men played in the Packer Cup, which is a greensomes drawn competition, during which some very serious precipitation occurred.

The last group were lucky to be able to play the last two holes without rain. However, spirits were not dampened and some good scores were achieved. Results were as follows:

1st Place – Tony Duffin & David Waters – 39pts

2nd Place – Dave Hayward & Alan Hayes – 38pts

3rd Place – Mike Metcalfe & Stuart Mann – 36pts

Thanks to Steve Rowse & John North for organising the event with help from our Pro shop team and Dave Hayward.

The Ladies Alliance Team had their first match of the season, against Bath ’A’ Team at home. The weather was cold but it least it stayed dry for the match. The visitors enjoyed our course and thought it was in excellent condition.

The match score was: Wells - 8 points - Bath ‘A’ 6 points. Tina Davies, Team Captain, congratulated the team and especially Sandy Heath, Jill Bocquet, Erica Klim and Cath Levell, who won their games.

The May Seniors’ medal was played off the white tees, which had been ‘stretched’ to their limit by the greens staff. Together with the dry conditions and a stiff breeze, it made conditions difficult and this was seen in the results.

Roy Elliott was the overall leader and winner of Div 2, with a nett 67, followed by Terry Searle (68) and Richard Birch (70). Mike Metcalfe is currently showing excellent consistency, winning Div 1 on count-back with a nett 70. Gerald Tomkins was second (70) and Rod Patch third (71).
