Wells Golf Club held their annual two ball Texas Scramble Open event for Seniors which attracted a full field of one hundred and seventy two players.
For once, the sun shone and there was no rain, so conditions were favourable. The course was set up to be friendly but challenging and it tested the players’ ability. The first players went out at 7.30 am whilst the last ones returned at 8 pm.
The overall winners were Dave Hayward (Wells) and Kevin Lane (Weston). Runners-up with low handicaps were Nigel Green (Dorset) and Nick Parker (Davenport), Rod Patch and Gerald Tomkins (Wells). Runners-up with high handicaps were Dave Cummings and Tim Nichols (Upavon), Tony Baker and Ken Scadden (Wells). In addition, there were a further sixteen prizes for high and low handicap combinations.
The winners of the Women’s Ping 4BBB competition, Christine Jukes and Sue Garrett came in with an excellent 42 points, winning on countback to the eighteenth hole.
The second placed pair was Marilyn Cole and Lindsey Sloman, 42 points, with Cath Levell and Diane Ramsay third with 38 points.
The Men’s May Stableford results are as follows: Saturday, First: Dave Cunningham 41 points, second Graham Hall 39 points, third Nick Gumm 38 points, fourth Caleb Wickham 38 points, fifth Jon Mackness 38 points.
There were 4x2’s going to Dave Cunningham, Mark Edgell, Lloyd Katz and Caleb Wickham.
The Sunday results were: First Niall Taylor with 39 points, second, Mark Agutter, 35 points and third, Liam Litterick, 35 points. There was just 1x2 scored by John Cooksley. Janice White
