The Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club again proved there is no place like home in their latest social matches. They followed up a 4–2 defeat at Brean with a 3.5–2.5 home win against Shortwood Lodge.

Acting Captain, George Underwood, did his bit at Brean, winning the opening match alongside Terry Button finishing one up. There was no stopping John Bendle and Howard Nowell, who won their encounter 5&4, but the other pairings found it hard going. Allen Cheney and Brian Phelps lost 4&3, Graham Edgell and Cyril Blacker were beaten 5&3 and Frank Reeves and Malcolm Tucker were defeated 7&6. Gerry Rowell was without a partner and Brean sportingly agreed for the three players to play a Stableford match with the best of the three taking the point. Brean, however, came out on top to clinch the first leg of the FossewayBrean Trophy clash. The return match is on July 19th, when Fosseway will be hoping to pull the deficit back.

Fosseway lost the first two matches against Shortwood, but came back strongly to earn the bragging rights. Blacker and Button were the most convincing winners, coming home 4&3, Bendle and Denis White won 2&1 and Rowell and Tucker finished 1 up. Geoff Hallett and John Williams gained a crucial half, but Underwood and Geoff Weeks lost 6&5 and Cheney and Reeves were defeated 3 &2.
