The Avalon League’s last game of the season was played against Tall Pines, who needed a result no worse than 3–2 to stay in the Division.
Simon Jackson and Pete Walker succumbed one down. Jackson’s day was summed up with his first tee shot hitting a tree and ending up just short of the twelfth green. Mike Metcalfe and Malcolm Terry finished off their strong season, winning 2&1. George Davis and Andy Williams won one up, with a big turning point on the twelfth, with Williams holing out from the first fairway for an Eagle.
Father and son, Steve and George Barrow, fought hard from the first tee, but had to accept a 4&3 loss. Last out was Jason Huck and Ian Burr, who were cruising four up after eleven holes but took their foot off the gas and won one up on the last hole. So, Tall Pines remain in the same Division.
After such a promising start to the season, and winning our first four games, we didn’t manage to win again until this game, losing away and only halving at home. Malcolm Terry secured Player of the Season, gaining nineteen points out of 25. Thank you to all those involved and all the support over the season.
The Chapman Trophy for Seniors Seventy and Over was played by a keen group in ideal scoring conditions after overnight rain and no wind. This was a Better Ball draw for partners, a competition which produced some very good scores.
The winners were Andy Marshall and John Blench, with 44 points. In second place, on countback, were Glyn Hallett and Allan Thompson, with 43 points. Thanks to the organiser, Mike Gee.
The Annual Texas Scramble Open saw 144 players participating in the event. Congratulations to our home winners, Graham Bingham, Jack Bailee, Steve Payne and Alan Thompson, with an impressive nett 54.8.
The overall winners of the Cyder Cup, which is held over two days and two courses, were Alan Todd and George Barrow, with 89 points, collecting £100 each. Phil Slater and Paul Griffiths were fourth.
