There was a three-way tie at the top of the leaderboard for the Monthly Medal of the Seniors’ section of Fosseway Golf Club, with Howard Nowell, Doug Lane and Noel Chatfield all recording nett 61.
On countback Nowell finished first with Lane second and Chatfield third.
Two days later, Nowell was again strongly in contention for the Captain’s Trophy, but this time he had to be content with second place. He scored 42 points in the Stableford event, but was beaten by Malcolm Tucker who collected 44 points after a back nine of 26 points. Pat Cray also amassed 42 points, but was beaten into third place on countback.
The social team found the going hard on a scorching hot day away to Whitley and were beaten by 5 games to 1. The shining lights were Cyril Blacker and Mike Weeks, who were impressive winners 6&4. Nowell and Alan Locke took their game right to the final green before losing one down. Acting Captain Lane and Tucker were beaten 2 & 1 and there were 3&2 defeats for George
Underwood and Gerry Rowell, for Steve Cook and Alan Jones and for Allen Cheney and Nick Foxwell.
