There was an exciting finish to the annual Guerwyn Thomas Trophy in the Seniors’ section of Fosseway Golf Club, with two extra holes being required to sort out the winning pair.
In the end, Mike Weeks and John Waters took the honours, beating Mike Ricketts and Allen Cheney. In the Semi-Finals, the winning pair had another close duel before overcoming Cyril Blacker and Martyn Cuer, while Ricketts and Cheney defeated Brian Phelps and Gerry Rowell.
It proved to be a good January for new member, Weeks, who then paired up with Nick Foxwell to win the Charity event.
There were a number of low scores in the January medal event, with Cuer leading the way with an excellent gross score of 67 (nett 54). Weeks continued his good form with a nett 59 to finish in second place, with Blacker third with a nett 62.
The consistent Cuer then began February with another success, taking the Broadway and Smith Gruesomes Cup alongside Ricketts. Their nett total of 64 saw them finish two shots ahead of Alan Jones and Graham Edgell, with Blacker and Reg Curtis third with a nett 67.
