Wells played at The Isle of Wedmore in the Mail on Sunday Classic with a nail biting finish. The epic match came to 2.5–2.5 which resulted in the final pairing playing a sudden death conclusion.
First out was Alan Todd who succumbed to a half, next was Simon Jackson, who fought hard to win 2&1. Third out was Pascal Norman, who lost 4&3 and fourth out was rookie, Baden Wilkinson, who won on the last with a birdie.
Finally, it was Charlie Lewis who lost 2&1. Lewis and his opponent continued to play with both having chances to clinch the match. They halved each hole until the seventh when Wedmore won.
The popular President’s Bowmaker saw 29 teams taking part. There were nine birdie twos showing the high standard of play.
President, Raymond Smith, was pleased to see so many members enjoying golf and donated bottles of wine to the winners.
In first place with 83 points were Ian Love, Roger Burns and Malcolm Terry. Not too far behind were Martin Pugh, Warren Hamilton and Aidan Guy with 81 points.
