The Annual Club Past Captains versus the Ladies Past Captains resulted in a win for the ladies. Glynis Slater congratulated her team on their excellent scores and was pleased to receive the trophy from Steve Rowse.
Wells Stragglers hosted Tall Pines for the return match. There were wins for Paul Cullen (with my special sun hat on) and Gary Leigh, John Baker (who won the NTP in two on the 15th) and John Hockey, Mark Edgell (I’ve been cut in the last two weeks) and Adam (boom it off the Tee, and see where it goes) Holliday, the two Richards (Williams and Sheard) also won. Terry Pearce and Stuart Gowen halved their match and finally Terry Searle (returning from injury) and Jon Mackness lost. Therefore, Wells won by 4.5–1.5.
A question! If your bag falls off your trolley halfway up the first fairway and is spearing away into the distance, do you leave your bag and catch your trolley up, or pick up your bag and run after your disappearing trolley?
In the penultimate match of the men’s Avalon League, Wells played Stockwood Vale, away. Playing away is hard enough, but the dry conditions made it even more difficult.
The winning pair was Malcolm Terry & Mike Metcalfe, with Ian Burr & Glen Crocker, George Davis & Andy Williams, Simon Jackson & Pete Walker and Danny Wyroll and Jason Huck all struggling against stiff opposition.
