The Daily Mail Foursomes qualifier competitions are keenly-fought, with the prize being to represent the club in the National games on a knockout basis.

Pascal Norman and Guy Timson won the Men’s competition, with a comfortable lead of three from Peter Ramsay and Adam Payne, who were runners-up. In the Ladies’ section, Cath Levell and Erica Klim had a clear lead, with Jill Bocquet and Janice White in second place.

The Ladies played their End of Season match in chilly, blustery conditions, but this didn’t deter the hardy golfers from playing excellently. Erica Klim, Sue Hockey, Phyl Lewison and Diane Ramsay won the competition with a score of 115. In second place were Glynis Slater, Margaret Sellar, Doreen Douglas and Janice White.

Cath Levell, Ladies’ Captain, expressed gratitude to Jill Bocquet and Kathy Lane for their commitment in running the teams this year. Both team Captains thanked all the Ladies who had joined in representing their club well during the season.

The final match of the Seniors’ season was played away at Clevedon on 22nd October. This fixture had been rained off earlier in the year, but this time it was played on a fine autumn day with the course in good condition.

The newly-elected Seniors’ Captain for 2019, John North, enjoyed his first match in charge, and indeed started well, with wins for the first two Wells pairs (Dave Szymanski and Dave Couzens by 5&3, and Graham Bingham and George White by 2&1), but the home team prevailed in the remaining matches, winning by five games to two.
