A maximum turnout gathered for the Shotgun competition, organised by professional, Jack Heginbotham, and his assistant, Tom Maggs. George Davis started the proceedings in fine style, with three loud rapports from his shotgun echoing around the course.

In first place with an extraordinary 99 points were Alan Obern, Warren Hamilton, David Sheppard and Martyn Pugh. Just one point behind were Roger Burns, Ron Gay, Ian Nicol and Ian Baldwin. In third place were Sandy and Steve Heath, Adam Halliday and Stuart Gowen.

This was the last event before both professionals move on to pastures new, and Chairman, Mike Magrath, thanked them for their enthusiasm and dedication to Wells Golf Club over the years. Jack Heginbotham began playing golf at Wells whilst a teenager, winning the Junior championship.

Jack said: “Thank you to the members of Wells Golf Club for their support during my four years as Head Professional, I have enjoyed the challenge and wish Wells Golf Club every success in the future.”

The annual Children’s Christmas party was held in the Clubhouse for children of ten years of age and younger. What excitement! After tea, there was dancing, with mums, dads and grandparents joining in the fun. Bernie, our DJ for the afternoon, kept everyone moving, and awarded prizes for the best dancing and for winners of the games.

The climax of the afternoon was a visit from Father Christmas, who had a gift for each of the children. It was lovely to see so many youngsters having a good time, and many thanks to Jenny Ead and Phil Lewison for organising the occasion.
