The Stragglers travelled away to Tall Pines for the final match of the season.
First were John Baker and Pascal Norman, who, playing off six, had to give a few shots and came in with a 3&2 win. Second were Steve Heath and Guy, who found themselves calling it a day after the 13th, losing 6&5. Third were Captain Terry Pearce and George Davis, who won 3&2.
In Fourth place were Adam and Bill Levell. Adam’s big hitting and Levell’s steady play wore the opponents down, and although Adam was regularly playing from the wrong fairway, the two managed an impressive win, 5&3. Fifth were Steve and new recruit John. A good tussle was had and a few holes were halved with birdies, but our players three-putted two greens each, and this proved to be their undoing as they finally lost 2&1.
Finally, Richard and Stuart. They found the going tough to start with. But a determined effort and a loss of form by the opponents saw them run out winners, 2&1. So, overall, Wells won 4-2 on the day and combined with 4-1 at home meant Wells finished with a resounding win, 8-3.
The Seniors travelled to Salisbury and South Wilts for the Senior Captain’s Away Day. The golf was both entertaining and highly competitive with all enjoying the championship course.
The winners were Phil Spring and Rob Baker in first place with 47 points, Colin Mantle and Colin Webber second with 45 and Graham Bingham and Alan Elkins third with 44 on countback.
Nearest the Pins were Ian Nicol, George Davis and Nick Carter. Nearest the Pin in Two was Nick Carter. Two-spots were achieved by Mike Metcalfe and Colin Mantle. The Senior Moment was awarded to Len Sweales and the Champagne Moment went to Glen Crocker.
The Ladies celebrated 25 years of the Interleague with a special day held at Wheathill. Teams from seventeen Somerset clubs took part, with Wheathill winning. The Wells team were a creditable fourth.
