The Dave Parsons Trophy was played in fantastic weather, hot and sunny, with a good breeze. The course was playing short but quick.
Colin Webber won by a single shot from Dean Hamilton.
1st Colin Webber, 43 points; 2nd Dean Hamilton, 42 points; 3rd Peter Ramsay, forty points (countback); 4th Bernard Longstaff, 40 points.
Wells Golf Club hosted Mixed teams from Long Ashton and Cirencester Golf Clubs, all three celebrating their 125th anniversaries this year. Played as an individual Stableford, Wells emerged victorious with home advantage, recording an average score of 34 points per player to 32 for Long Ashton and 31 for Cirencester. Top scorers for Wells were Tina Davies (41 points) and Andrew Boatswain, (forty points). Following the match a convivial meal was enjoyed by all.
The first pair in the Avalon League match were Mike Metcalfe and Malcolm Terry winning one up. Simon Jackson and Jason Huck were not enjoying one of the hottest days of the year, but hung on before succumbing to a 4&3 loss.
The previously unbeaten pairing of Glen Crocker and Ian Burr played a tight game but lost one down.
New pairing of the oldest and youngest members of the team, George Davis and George Barrow, gelled well, winning 4&3. Pascal Norman and Andy Williams were not at their best and lost 4&2.
The Stragglers played their return match away against Sherborne. The Somerset Army lost to The Dorset Army 3&2, and they were presented with the trophy.
Jones and Hembury lost 4–3, Kenworthy and Leigh won 6–4, Pearce and Baker won 4–3, Williams and Gowen lost 2–1, Searle and Timson lost 5–4. Five players had not played at Sherborne before, so it was a tough fixture.
Gill Magrath and Janice White represented the club in the South West Area Finals of the England Golf Australian Spoons competition at Cumberwell Park, playing against 42 clubs from St Mellion to Axecliff, from Torquay to Cricket St Thomas. They gelled well together and came in with 41 points which earned them third place overall. The winners were from the home club!
