Wells’ Rogers Cup Ladies team had a resounding win at Burnham and Berrow, playing against Stockwood Vale in the County Competition. All team members bar one had to give shots to their opponents, as many as ten in one case, but the team conjured up their best golf to win 7–0 and will play the next round at Cricket St Thomas.

The Men’s April Medal was well attended, with some excellent scores being recorded. In Division One, Dave Hayward was first, with nett 66, with Alan Todd second with 68 nett. In Division Two, Philip Spring played well to win with nett 70, followed by Bill McCollum on nett 74 after countback. Division Three saw close competition with David Cunningham just one point ahead on nett 73 from Paul Hembury with nett 74. There were eleven two spots on the day, with Mark Western having two.

Wells’ Senior Men visited West Wilts, where the weather was dry and sunny, enhancing the amazing views from the course. Dave Hayward, Seniors Captain, won his first game of the season with partner, Bill McCollum. The game ended when he chipped in from forty yards for a birdie.

Peter Leverick and Allan Bancroft won at the eighteenth. Steve Bocquet and John Moxon halved their match. Embarrassingly, but quickly forgotten, the last Wells pair lost their match by a score resembling a tennis tie-break result. Wells lost overall 2½ to 3½.
