You’ve learnt a new sport, but how will you fare against those stalwarts of the game who have the skills and knowledge you haven’t? On completion of the Camerton and Peasedown Croquet Club’s beginners’ course, the eleven new members voiced this worry.
In response, the club held a special Beginners’ Progressive Doubles afternoon. Over a series of handicap games, the new members were partnered by different current players who offered their advice and encouragement – well, they wanted to win, too! By the end, most had played with or against many of the current members in a friendly, sociable atmosphere – long will it continue. David Christie won the prize as the leading newcomer.
The croquet club likewise has begun its season well, having won its first three league matches: beating Weston-super-Mare and Bath in the AC Intermediate Leagues 4–1 and 3–2 respectively, and Weston-super-Mare in GC Central North League 16–4.
If you would like to be caught in the buzz of croquet, why not come to the club’s Family Fun Day on Sunday, 4th June from 2 p.m.? Entry is free and all are welcome, including accompanied children. Afternoon tea and cake will be available. Our four lawns are situated within the Peasedown Cricket Club ground, off Whitebrook Lane, BA2 8LD.
