Mendip had a fine entry for their Open Autumn Bowmaker event. The weather held fair and the course looked great.

The winning visitors team with eighty one points came from Lansdown/Broome Manor/Kingsdown. Second visitors team came from Moseley GC near Birmingham with seventy six and a Sherborne Team were third with seventy four. Best Member/Guests Team were Tony Williams and his partners from Knowle and Taunton and Pickeridge with seventy one points.

The men’s weekend stableford attracted ninety two entrants. The overall winner was Frank Corbin with thirty eight, beating on countback Jack Hayes with Dilan Perkins third with thirty seven. These were the only players to beat par with James Pitchell the best of the thirty six’s in fourth place.

Stuart Disney, the Club’s Director of Golf, runs an annual event, the Cyder Cup, with a differing format each year. This year’s competition was a team event with the Men, Ladies, Seniors and Juniors all fielding teams of six. An excellent day enjoyed by all who took part. The Junior’s came out on top with 199 points, The Senior’s totalled 187, the Ladies 181 and the Men 177.

Nearest the pin this week went to Spencer Pocock from John Ellis and Andy Humphries.

The Ladies held the Barbara Jose medal event which saw a win for Ann Padley with a net seventy eight, Jinhee Page was second with eighty one and Jenny Merrett third with eighty three.

The Senior’s Competition was badly effected by heavy rain. The early starters saw the best of the conditions, with some later players either walking in or not even starting. However, almost forty completed their rounds. Division One went to Bryan Lewis with a fine thirty seven points with Ken Webster second with thirty two after countback from Ian Hall. Division Two was won by Steve Turner with thirty five, Phil Bendall was second with thirty four and John Treeby was third with thirty two.
