Facing a team currently top of the table and favourites for promotion, Mendip knew this match was going to be tough. However, the visitors started brightly and for the first period of play, were the better side able to snuff out any threat on the Mendip goal and then press for the opener.

This came for Mendip following a flowing attacking move to find left wing, Connie Glover, perfectly placed in the D to slot the ball past the keeper at the far post.

Going behind clearly upset the home team, who then stepped up the pressure for the remainder of the half to draw level and then score another two goals. Mendip tried to remain positive and optimistic that they could prevent the gap widening between the teams, but it was hard in the face of such a strong, young, well drilled side.

Central defender, Sarah Whittaker battled well trying to deal with the Bristol attack and player of the match went to Mendip goal keeper, Oenone Bodman Harris. Her brave, athletic performance in goal made her worthy of the award.

Although the home team did manage to score three more times in the second half, they did not have everything their own way. Mendip had attacking chances, but unfortunately were unable to convert them into goals.

Next week, Mendip are at home, 10.30 a.m. start in Midsomer Norton to play Somerset Gryphons at Norton Hill School.
