The World Rally Championship came to Wales at the weekend for Wales Rally GB; the premier event in the country. Tens of thousands of spectators poured into the Welsh forests for the action over this three-day event.

Radstock’s Ross Whittock, co-driving for Junior European Champion, Chris Ingram, took the two wheel drive category by storm to win in no less than twelve minutes ahead of his nearest rival, Frenchman Raphael Astier – WRC leader in the category.

Ross said: “We knew we had to attack from the outset as Raphael has shown his speed during the year; as have the British Rally Championship contenders. We know we have a good car in the German-prepared Opel Adam, we just needed to trust our notes and each other.”

Ross and Chris dominated the class by taking fastest on all of the 21 special forest stages, before reaching the finish in Llandudno on Sunday. Celebrations were had in front of the many thousands who lined the streets for the finish ceremony.

The event also made history inasmuch as it was won by Elfyn Evans, the first British driver for seventeen years.

Furthermore, the 2018 Manufacture award was taken by Ford, which is operated by M-sport in Cumbria. All in all a great weekend for the Brits.
