Midsomer Norton Seconds welcomed Weston-super-Mare to the home of rugby. Weston kicked off and the whole pack worked as a team as they all watched the ball bounce around before it went into touch. Fortunately, Norton got over this immediate setback and played some aggressive front-foot rugby, aided by excellent kicking from the half backs and a strong scrum.

Weston opened the scoring with a penalty after a series of silly infringements where Norton were too eager to get their hands on the ball. This lead lasted all of two minutes as Jason Holmwood broke through several tackles due to running a superb line. The conversion was added by Ben Moon, who made a welcome return to the fold.

Towards the end of the half, the lineout started to resemble something you would see in a senior rugby match and the scrum continued to dominate, with Williams, Bicknell and Backhurst making things tough for Weston, providing good ball for Button to go on rampaging runs.

The new look backline showed their class with the two young centres remaining elusive throughout and tackling well and the back three put out fires whilst being a constant threat out wide. Anderson finished clinically on the right touchline in the second half after Blackmore had displayed serious pace before passing to the youngster. He also claims he scored another try at some point, and that one was probably really good as well!

In the end there were five tries, three in the first half and two in the second; Joe Button scoring one of these from close range. It was a very enjoyable game played in good spirit and it was great to see Lloyd Edgell and Luke Short come on and add some extra beef in the final quarter. Finally, a special mention to Jack Packer, who we all hope recovers soon from his nasty knock on the ear at the end of the game.
