A miserable, grey, wet day greeted the two teams at Norton Down on Saturday. The visiting team, Bridgwater, started the game very strongly, catching the home side unawares with the power of their forwards. They quickly scored an unconverted try on five minutes to take an early lead.

While Norton were trying to regroup, Bridgwater scored a second try with a simple chip over the pressing home defence. The ball luckily stood up rather than rolling off the pitch and the chasing player just had to dot the ball down to score his second try of the day.

Norton started to get into the game, and it was nip and tuck for the next forty minutes. For the second week in a row, handling errors in the opposition twenty-two metre area frustrated the Norton team, depriving them of a score.

Struggling to find a way through the Norton defence, Bridgwater had to resort to kicking a drop goal to extend their lead in the 55th minute. Norton’s continued injury problems increased, losing influential forwards, Gimson and Moss, midway through the game and finished again with fourteen players.

As the game entered the final ten minutes, Bridgwater stepped up the effort and their big pack put additional pressure on the home defence, which finally broke. This allowed the visitors to score their first try of the second half.

Bridgwater scored their fourth try to gain a bonus point with just time to take the kick-off left on the game, winning 29–0.
