For the second game in a row, Midsomer Norton Seconds lost to a last minute try after leading for the majority of the match. This was, however, the most committed and complete performance of the season so far against an unbeaten Old Edwardians side. The key to Norton’s early success was a dominant lineout and all round defence aligned with tactical kicking.
Scott Anderson scored after a well-rehearsed lineout move for the first try of the game, before Old Eds’ fly half calmly chipped a drop kick, making the score 5–3. Tom Rideout then kicked two penalties and Edwardians scored an unconverted try.
The victory looked to be going to the home side at 11–8 until Norton failed to clear their lines and an interception followed by an obstruction lead to a yellow card and dangerous field position. Old Edwardians then crashed over after some heroic last ditch tackling to snatch the win.
