The Thirds travelled to Tor on Saturday and despite being beaten, scored four tries to secure a well-earned bonus point.
The hosts had their numbers boosted as their First team game was cancelled, so their large match day squad enabled them to regularly introduce fresh legs. Despite this, Norton battled to the end and scored their bonus point try in the 75th minute.
The hosts began brightly and pulled three tries clear early on before Norton got on the score sheet. A number of close range drives were stopped before full back, Julian Hawkins, powered over from a quickly taken tap penalty.
Tor increased their lead before half-time, and looked to be cruising.
Norton had a great twenty minute spell in the middle of the second half. Fly half, Rob Fuller, finished off a prolonged period of pressure for an excellent try. The ball carrying of Gregg Jones, Alex Higgs, Luke Short and Lloyd Edgell helped Norton to repeatedly make the gain line.
This power allowed Man of the Match, Higgs, to claim a well-deserved try.
Tor further increased their lead as they profited in the open spaces, but Norton weren’t finished and prop, Luke Short, powered over for the bonus point try late on.
This week Norton host Bridgwater at Norton Down, 2.30 p.m. kick-off.
