Runner-Up in Division One was Ian Hall, with 37 points, but the outstanding round of the day came from Matt Rawlings with a Gross 70, one under par score, giving him 43 points. Fifty pairs competed in the qualifying event for the Hodder Cup, with the top 32 scores moving on to the knock-out stages. This is always a keenly contested event and this year was no exception, with pairs having to break par to qualify. Steve Rawlings/Chris Lindley, Thomas Black/Malcolm Srawley and Charlie Pike/Jeremy Lawrence all qualified with net 65s, Colin and Nigel Wiltshire with a net 64 and Scott and Chris Butland with a net 63. However, the clear winners on the day were Robert Ware and Jack Harrington with an excellent net 59.

The Ladies’ Bowmaker was effected by some poor weather, which resulted in several teams not completing their rounds. However, a fine score on the day came from Jenny Merrett/Jo Espley/Polly Jones/Lyn Jones who won with 79 points, one ahead of Anita Butcher/Julia Phillips/Pauline Williams/Ann Padley.

The Ladies Alliance A team opened their campaign with a home fixture versus Filton. Despite the absences of four key players, Marion Speed’s team completed an outstanding 10–4 success. Wins for Mendip came from Jinhee Page, Fran Davies, Jan Fukuyama and Jo Espley with Marian and Jenny Merrett gaining halves.

The Seniors’ competed in the first round of the Somerset Rose Bowl KO Cup playing Stockwood Vale at home. A fine performance resulted in a 3–2 victory with wins coming from Ian Perkins/John Ellis, Ian Hall/David Braithwaite and Gary Quin/Nigel Brokenshire.

The Seniors’ had two matches this week, home to Cumberwell and away to Clevedon. The first resulted in a narrow defeat, 3–4. Wins came from Nigel Brokenshire/Terry Carter and Roland Greenaway/Malcolm Sutherland with Seniors’ Captain Steve Davis/Paul Ashman and Brian Lewis/Derek Bellew gaining halves, the latter after a fine fight back from five down after ten holes. In the away fixture at Clevedon an excellent half was gained with wins from Nick Inskip/Robert Miller, Roland Greenaway/Norman Squire and with Andy Griffiths/John Brooksbank gaining a half.

Ninety-two Seniors supported incoming Seniors’ Captain, Steve Davis for his Drive In event.

With a shotgun start this meant that there was a full clubhouse to hear Steve talk passionately about his chosen charity, the British Heart Foundation, an organisation very close to him having suffered a heart attack a few years ago.

A large crowd witnessed his actual Drive In, not the finest effort, either effected by the crowd or the pre-drive glass of port! The competition itself was won by Paul Merrett/ Richard Baillon/Bryan Lewis/Ian Vincent with 86 points after countback from Jim Scott/Keith Beasley/Gareth Collier and Phil Bissett, with Nigel Cheshire/Alan Roper/Michael Sharp/Charles Roberts third with 83 points.
