The Somer Valley’s own running club, Somer Athletics Club, has been busy enjoying the festive spirit. Runners have been adding Christmas clothing to club vests at a number of events that also support local charities.

Club members featured at the Saltford Santa Dash where they wore their best Santa suits. Others ran Weston’s Christmas Cracker across the golden sands, whilst more enjoyed the Bromham Pudding Run near Devizes where each runner has the motivation of getting a Christmas Pud to go with their medal.

Many of the runners braving the cold and enjoying the events were part of Somer’s successful 2022 beginners group. From being novices last Christmas, they’ve developed their fitness to comfortably run 10k races. More importantly, they’ve forged new friendships, supporting one another and enjoying both the social and fitness benefits of the club.

Buoyed by this, Somer AC are looking for the next novices to join their 2023 beginners group. It starts on 5th January for ten weeks, welcoming runners of all abilities. More details are available at: www.somerac.org.uk or contact them via their Facebook page.
