CAMVALE I started their campaign in Division 4B of the Men’s Avon Summer Tennis League with a tricky away fixture to Cleeve Hill II.  The A and B pairing lost their first match against strong opposition, while the C and D pairing narrowly lost out on a deciding third set championship tiebreak.  The reverse set of matches saw the A and B pairing come through in yet another tense final set tiebreak, coming from three match points down to win. In their second match, the C and D pairing put up a fantastic effort, narrowly losing 4-6, 4-6 to the number one opposition pair, making the final result 8-2 to Cleeve Hill II.  Camvale II started their campaign in Division 7B with a home fixture against Woodlands (Hanham). It was played in a competitive and friendly manner by both home and away teams. The first rubber on court 1 was won in two sets by Camvale’s A & B pairing against Woodland’s 1 & 2 pairing. A close and entertaining rubber with some good rallying. Camvale slightly stronger over the two sets. Enjoyed by all the spectators present. The second rubber on court 2 was won by Woodlands 3 & 4 pairing against Camvale’s C & D pairing. With a mixture of hard groundstrokes and shrewd tactics. Camvale giving a good account of themselves but not able to put sufficient games on the board. After a short break for refreshments the third and fourth rubbers got underway. Woodlands 3 & 4 pair winning an absorbing third rubber against Camvale’s A & B pair in three sets. Woodlands taking the first set. The second set a really close battle with Camvale taking it with both pairs reaching six games followed by a seven point tiebreak. The third set was played as a ten point championship tiebreak with Woodlands winning out. The fourth and final rubber was between Camvale’s C & D pair and Woodlands 1 & 2 pairing. Woodlands taking the first set. Camvale then with some nice all-round play taking the second set. The third set again was played as a ten point championship tiebreak. This was really tight and exciting at times with Woodlands taking it ten points to seven. The final overall score being Camvale II two points and Woodlands (Hanham) eight points.
