After the good mid-week win over Portishead, this game was a reality check for Welton as they were beaten by fellow strugglers, Wellington.

The pitch, which was more akin to a glue pot, passed a late inspection and the game started as fine drizzle descended making conditions quite miserable. The first real attack of the game saw a good run down the right flank by Ryan Gay and his pinpoint cross was met by Dan Scrivens on a charge. His screamer of a shot was palmed away by Wellington keeper, Jake Viney. Welton continued to press and another good move saw Billie Cooper's header fly inches over the bar. The home side finally woke up and Welton keeper, Dan Tamblyn, did well to deny Corie Lewis. Welton suffered an injury on fifteen minutes. Barry Sandquest pulled up and was replaced by Chris Brimble. The home side should have taken the lead after 25 minutes when Andy Butler was found in space in front of the Welton goal, but he somehow skewered his shot past the post. Minutes later, Welton had another let-off when a cracking shot from Nicky Ford thumped against the Welton bar. The home side took the lead on 35 minutes. Joe Chamberlain met a cross from the right with a diving header that saw the ball crash into the Welton net. The Welton defence were furious with the assistant referee as Chamberlain looked a good yard or more offside, but the goal stood. Cooper and Jack Metcalf were both booked by the referee. Just before the halftime whistle, a corner for Welton, by veteran Andy Catley, who had a good half, was met by Metcalf and his first-time shot rattled the Wellington post.

The second half saw a lively start from Welton and a shot from Catley went close. On 55 minutes, Wellington got a second when a corner from the left was met by Wellington Captain, Scott Holland, and his bullet header saw the ball fly straight into Welton's net. Welton's heads didn't drop and Gay saw his effort go wide, then a full volley from Bradley Partner crashed against the Wellington bar. Tamblyn then brought off an outstanding save to deny Lewis and minutes later, the Welton keeper was on hand again to deny Holland. Welton pulled a goal back with five minutes to go when Gay met a corner from the right and in the melee that followed was able to turn the ball into the net. Tamblyn was called into action again when he produced an outstanding double save.

Deep into injury time, Kyle Bassett broke through and slotted the ball past Tamblyn into the net to score the home side's third.
