A Bath Motor Club member made history last weekend as the first British crew to win the European Rally Championship in 52 years.

Back in 1967, Vic Elford won the title alongside David Stone, and now, in 2019, Chris Ingram with Bath Motor Club member, co-driver, Ross Whittock, took the title after a long battle over eight events this season, finishing off with Rally Hungary.

The event, which ran over two days, was hard and unpredictable, with atrocious weather conditions. The crew picked up punctures that lost them valuable time; but with true grit and determination they arrived at the finish, fourth, but clinching the major championship by nine points from Russian star, Alexey Lukyanuk.

Ross said: “This is a dream come true; after only five years as a co-driver, I have made it this far. The World Championship is my next goal, but I will need to work even harder.”
