Last year I started taking part in an Instagram challenge @weeklyposychallenge where amateur gardeners alongside professional florists pick from their own gardens.

Doing this has opened my eyes to the cut flowers that are waiting for me in my garden if I choose to offer them a place inside.

This posy of bergenias is a case in point.

I would never have thought of picking them before but they make a beautiful and unusual display that speaks to nature so much more than the flowers that we are used to seeing offered for sale year round.

I’ve arranged them in a jug I bought when the contents of Ston Easton Park was auctioned off last September.

Snowdrops, daffodils, grape hyacinths and hellebores are all great to arrange at this time of year.

Why don’t you give it a try and see where your creativity takes you?
