THE date for when the Chew Valley’s annual community squash harvest event will take place has been announced.
The event takes place on Saturday, September 20, from 12.30pm to 6.30pm at the Community Farm, a social enterprise based in the Chew Valley that delivers organic food across the local area.
The farm seeks to take pride in community, the environment and providing nourishing food. It is open to welcoming anyone onto the land for volunteering, courses and events purposes.
The Community Farm is inviting residents to attend and celebrate all that has grown on the land over the past year as well as the many hands that have helped bring the crops off the fields and into the homes of hundreds of local people.
Whether a part of the farm’s work already or joining for the first time, the farm sees the event as a chance for everyone attending to pause, gather, and give thanks for what the land has provided.
As well as harvesting the squash crop together, attendees will be given time to explore the fields, learn a little about how the Community Farm grow their organic veg and just enjoy the changing seasons on the land.
Once the squash has been gathered, visitors are to come together around a fire to enjoy music and take part in a whole host of squash-related games.
Included with the ticket is a bowl of squash soup, made with fresh organic produce from the fields. Homemade cake, The Farm’s own apple juice, and cider will also be on offer.
This event is designed to be for adults and older kids, anyone who would like to get their hands a little muddy or mark the turn of the season.
Tickets can be bought on The Community Farm’s website.
