It's carnival time once again, as the Midsomer Norton and District Carnival Association bring the floats and entertainment through Westfield on Thursday, 14th November.

This year's carnival will head out from the starting point in Westfield, along Wells Road and Fosseway for the one-and-a-half-mile route, potentially for the last time, as next year could see the carnival move to a new route. The date of the carnival will be changing to Monday nights, instead of the usual Thursday.

The carnival will be leaving Thursday nights after 39 years to accommodate changes to the County Circuit, in the hope that more entrants will be able to get involved. The proposed new route, which still needs to be voted through, would see the procession travel through Midsomer Norton High Street and connect with Westfield and Radstock. More information on the changes to the carnival will be made available on the Carnival Association's website: http://www.illuminatedcarnival.co.uk">www.illuminatedcarnival.co.uk and also via the Facebook page, where you can find this year's programme.

Leading this year's parade, will be the Carnival Queen, fifteen-year-old Charlotte Brint, Miss Carnival, Megan Tokelove, twelve, Carnival Princess, Mary-Jean Foxwell, nine, and Carnival Prince, eleven-year-old Travis Payne.

This year's carnival will be dedicated to the memory of John Sage, carnival stalwart and original committee member, who died earlier this year.

The roads around Westfield will close at 7 p.m. on Thursday and the parade will set off at 7.30 p.m. Please go along and support your local carnival, which, over the past year, has been able to donate over £11,000 to worthwhile causes.
