Cycling fever has come to Chewton Mendip, with a cycling themed

Village Fete taking place on Saturday, 1st July, 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. Children at Chewton Mendip Primary School were challenged to decorate a bike to celebrate their annual get together – with some remarkable transformations.

“When our staff and pupils were challenged to decorate a bike, they let their imaginations run riot,” commented Mrs Rice, Chewton Mendip Primary School head teacher.

“We were given five rusty old bikes to decorate and now have a bike decorated with beautiful paper flowers, a folding bike decorated with origami rabbits, a gardening themed bike complete with cycling scarecrow, and a bike entitled ‘Wild Thing’. We even have a dragon complete with wings!”

All of the primary school pupils were asked to vote for their favourite design and Hedgehog Class’s ‘Flying Dragon’ claimed first prize. All the bikes can be seen at the Fete.

Chewton Mendip and Litton villagers have also been getting creative – an Extra Terrestrial has even been spotted on the back lanes!

You can vote for an overall winner of the competition by coming to the Chewton Mendip Fete on Saturday, 1st July between 3 and 6 p.m.

There is a packed schedule of events including performances from Wells Unity Band and the Somerset Dance Umbrella, along with the traditional mix of stalls, games, BBQ and Bar.

All proceeds from the Fete will be shared equally between St Margaret’s Church and Chewton Mendip CEVA Primary School.
