A YOUNG Mid Somerset motorist has been given a 10-month custody sentence suspended for two years after admitting dangerous driving.

Devan Smith, aged 20, of Golledge Close, Chilcompton, appeared in Taunton Crown Court on Wednesday, September 16.

Prosecuting barrister Arthur Sutton said Smith was charged with driving a Volkswagen Fox car dangerously in Burdoch Road, Frome, on July 27 last year when he would have been only 19 years old.

Smith pleaded guilty to the offence at an earlier hearing in June

Judge Richard Shepherd ordered detention in a young offender institution for 10 months, but suspended the order for two years.

He also banned Smith from driving for a year backdated to June and ordered him to pay £500 compensation and to complete 200 hours of unpaid work.
