FOR the Great Big Green Week, Frome Town Council and Somerset charity Donate IT are once again partnering to host a tech amnesty at Frome Town Hall.

The collection will take place on Sunday, June 8, from 10am to 1pm, in the car park off Park Road and offers residents an opportunity to donate unwanted digital devices such as phones, laptops, tablets, and other tech items.

Donate IT ensures that all data is securely wiped before the equipment is either refurbished and redistributed to people in need, or responsibly recycled within the UK.

Great Big Green Week is a nationwide celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature. Initiatives like this tech amnesty offer a practical way for local people to take part, by reducing electronic waste and supporting digital inclusion.

Cllr Fiona Barrows said: “Donating unwanted tech is a simple way to do a good thing for your community and for the planet. Research suggests that a lot of unused tech—especially phones—is stored rather than thrown away. That’s obviously better than sending them to landfill, but donating them could make a huge difference to someone, and be better for the environment. Please consider donating any unwanted devices to the Donate IT team this Great Big Green Week.”

The devices collected are distributed to individuals and families who would otherwise be digitally excluded—for example, those seeking work or education opportunities but lacking access to the internet or suitable hardware.

If the weather is poor, the collection point will be moved indoors and clearly signposted. Alternatively, devices can be dropped off at Frome Town Hall during normal office hours.
