Children from St Nicholas Primary School, Radstock, took on the challenge to complete a full sponsored 5km walk or run along the Radstock to Kilmersdon stretch of the cyclepath on Thursday, 20th June.
Unexpectedly, everyone completed the whole 5km, making it a wonderful team effort. The money is still being counted, but the school would like to thank the Rotary Club for its £100 donation, which will help fund an outside learning space for the school.
The aim is to provide a Yurt and Pizza Oven to allow the children to learn new skills, but which will come at an estimated cost of £12,000.
Amy Pritchard, Chair of the Friends of St Nicholas’ PTFA, said: “Funding to schools has faced massive cuts, and these are the kinds of activities that schools are unable to fund themselves from the ever-shrinking budget that they have; which is why it is all the more important for us to work together to ensure our school is able to provide the most enriching and enjoyable education experiences possible for our children.
"Due to our new building works, we were unable to hold our annual summer fete, which raises significant funds each year, so we felt this was a way to both have fun and raise some money.”
