WHETHER experienced or novice, potential choristers were invited to join Mendip Male Voice Choir this week to test their voices.

Fresh from its successful South Wales weekend tour on September 19 to 20, Mendip Male Voice Choir began rehearsals for its winter season of concerts on Monday, September 29, with an open evening where potential new members could find out more about the choir and hopefully sing with it.

The choir always welcomes new recruits. Potential members do not need to audition to join the choir and it is not necessary to be able to read music to become a member. The choir is formed from four sections: Tenor 1, Tenor 2, Baritone and Bass, covering the broad vocal range of male voices from the highest to the lowest.

A spokesperson said: “We welcome singers from across the region, with current members drawn from an area covering Bath and North East Somerset across to West Wiltshire. Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings from 7.30pm until 9.30pm.”

Those visiting the choir on Monday were able to find out more about it and its performances and join in with the rehearsal.

Musical director Kate Courage said: “We always welcome new members, and promise you a relaxed evening and the opportunity to try us out. We look forward to seeing anyone who is interested: you can be sure of a hearty welcome from the Mendip Men!”

Choir chairman Richard Luscombe added: “We are always pleased to see new faces at our rehearsals and [Monday was] an opportunity for existing members to introduce their friends to the choir alongside those who may have seen us perform at our summer concerts and have been fired up to come along and sing with us.”
