A SERVICE that provides support to filmmakers in Somerset will be hosting an event in Frome inviting people who have ideas that could support production companies in the local area.

The head of Screen Somerset Mark Ford will be in Frome Town Hall on Wednesday, July 16, between 3pm and 7pm, looking to discuss the ideas, spaces or services that may be useful to those filming in Somerset.

Screen Somerset is part of Somerset Council and funded by central government via the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

It aims to make Somerset as ‘film friendly’ as possible, providing a single point of contact and local knowledge to help filmmakers find their perfect location, helping shoots run smoothly and liaising with the county council’s highways, parking and property services.

In 2024/25, an estimated £4-million was spent by production companies in Somerset, an increase of almost £3 million on the previous year.

Mr Ford said: “Please pop along on July 16 if you have an interesting property, business or land in or around Frome that you might be interested in promoting as a film-friendly location.

“If you work in the industry or have accommodation, or a catering service that you’d like promoted to anyone filming in the Frome area, please come and say hello and see if Screen Somerset can help.”

Frome town councillor Anita Collier said: “Frome is a beautiful town, full of interesting buildings, spaces and people. It’s already a draw for production companies, with shows like Poldark and Sanditon filming in Frome in recent years, and most recently we lent our car park to the team filming a major production in the area.

“Come and chat to Mark about your ideas for locations, to find opportunities for your business, offer accommodation and more.”
