A VARIETY of services and events are being held by a group of rural Anglican churches to celebrate the Easter season.
St John’s Church, in Peasedown, along with St Julian’s, in Wellow, St James’, in Foxcote, and St Julian’s, Shoscombe, have ‘something for everybody’ this Easter.
Leader of the churches, the Rev Matthew Street, said: “Easter is the most important Christian festival of the year.
“The events that unfolded in Jerusalem 2,000 years ago have shaped our faith.
“Jesus’ death and resurrection tell us a huge story about the sacrifice one man made for the rest of humanity and the love God has for us all.
“Come and find out more about the Easter story at one of our special weekend events, whether that is our meditation evening on Maundy Thursday, the Churches Together ‘Walk of Witness’ on Good Friday, or our Easter Sunday celebrations.”
The four churches begin by hosting ‘Waiting in the Garden of Gethsemane’ at 7 pm on Maundy Thursday, April 2, in Peasedown, followed by a community meal.
On Good Friday, April 3, a Peasedown Christians Together united service takes place in Bath Road Methodist Church at 10 am, followed by a ‘Walk of Witness’, and coffee and hot cross buns at the church.
A ‘Meditation on the Cross’ takes place at 3 pm in Wellow.
On Easter Sunday, ‘Bubble Church’ begins at 9.15 am in Peasedown, with Holy Communion at 10 am in Wellow, and ‘Worship for Everybody’ at 10.30 am in St John’s Church.
The Easter Sunday Holy Communion in St James’ Church, in Foxcote, begins at 11.15 am.
