AT the recent Frome Lions Open Gardens event, held during the Frome Festival, The Inner Wheel, Frome, presented a generous £1,000 donation to the trustees of the Blue House in support of its tricentennial fundraising campaign.
The Frome Open Garden Weekend, hosted by Frome Lions at the Blue House on July 4 and 5, was held to help raise funds in support of the Blue House’s ongoing fundraising campaign.
The Blue House is a Grade I listed almshouse situated in the heart of Frome. It provides affordable accommodation for older members of the local community and has been a valued part of the town’s history for 300 years. The building is not only architecturally significant but also continues to serve an important social purpose.
Operating as an independent charity, the Blue House receives no direct financial support from central government or local authorities. It relies instead on modest contributions from residents and ongoing fundraising efforts to cover its operating costs and upkeep.
The charity is currently working towards a fundraising target of £500,000 to carry out essential repairs to the historic structure. These works are necessary to preserve the integrity of the building and ensure it remains a safe and welcoming home for future generations.
Frome Lions Club is a local branch of Lions Clubs International, a global volunteer organization dedicated to community service. They have been serving the Frome area for over 50 years, raising money through various events and donating it to local charities and individuals, as well as supporting international disaster relief efforts.
