FIVE candidates will be contesting the vacant Somerset Council seat in the Frome West division by election on September 3.

The candidates are Dominic Ellison (Green Party), Drew Gardner (Liberal Democrats), David Quantrill-Simon (Conservative Party), Christopher Wildridge (Labour Party) and Joseph Williams (Reform UK).

People planning to vote in person at a polling station must provide photo ID – this can include a passport, driving licence or older person’s bus pass.

A photo ID can be used if it is out of date, if it looks like you. The name on the ID should be the same name used to register to vote.

Those without the necessary ID can apply for the free Voter Authority Certificate (VAC). The deadline for applications is 5pm on Tuesday, August 25. Applications can be made online, by post or in person.

The deadline for applications to register to vote and for postal votes has now passed.

The Frome West seat became available after the recent resignation of former Green party councillor, Michael Dunk, who was imprisoned for his part in the M25 Just Stop Oil protests.
