Hospital staff member Sarah Stewart and a good friend joined forces to undertake a three-day charity trike challenge from Brighton to Weymouth dressed as gaming figures Mario and Luigi.
Covering 150 miles, 50 miles each of the three days, in costume, the pair of Team Mario and Team Luigi managed to raise £800 of their £2,000 target for the Paediatric Ward at the Royal United Hospitals NHS Trust in Bath.
Their fundraising will go towards an all-new De-Escalation Room provided a safe, calming and sensory-friendly space for children and young people experiencing mental health crisis.
Member of the RUH Bath Enhanced (Mental Health) Care Team, Sarah shared her reason for ‘Why the Challenge’ with the Bath hospital charity RUHX.
She said: “As healthcare staff, I’ve seen first-hand how frightening and overwhelming crisis situations can be for children and their families.
“This dedicated de-escalation room will provide a peaceful environment where young patients can feel safe, supported and cared for during some of their most difficult moments.”
The duo took to their decorated trikes with the hope of helping raise awareness and also a lot of smiles as they made their way dressed as the gaming characters.
Sarah’s friend, Vikki - aka Team Luigi - added: “It’s just such an amazing cause and both my kids suffer with mental health, I’ve seen how bad it can get so if I can help just one child, it’s worth it. Sounds cheesy, but it’s true.”
Friends and family came along for support vehicle together with sponsors including Clo Clo Fragrance and Spartan Gym from Chippenham.
Sarah said: “Every donation, big or small, will help make a real difference to children and families who need support the most.”
