Last Tuesday saw a meeting of interested parties come together to ensure the continuation of pride events in Midsomer Norton.
Organised by Midsomer Norton Community Trust, the meeting started with an open discussion about how Midsomer Norton Pride was started four years ago and had since grown to the point that a larger organising team was needed to take the event forward.
The meeting decided to set up an organising committee, which is elected by its membership. Attendees agreed to a set of aims that cover four areas: Community, Social, Education and Campaigning.
More broadly, it was decided that the overall aim of Midsomer Norton Pride was: "To unashamedly represent Midsomer Norton and the wider Somer Valley, and unapologetically stand up for the rights of the LGBT+ community. Midsomer Norton Pride is for everyone in our community to celebrate together on the basis that we are stronger together."
The formation of a Midsomer Norton Pride membership and organising committee, under the umbrella of the Community Trust, will take place with an inaugural meeting, on Friday, 20th September, at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall.
