Black Prince at Cranmore, by Roger F. Jones, is the latest painting by Roger (who is a steam enthusiast), but one of many he has painted over the past forty years!
This picture depicts David Shepherd (with his back towards us) at East Somerset Railway, Cranmore. David is pointing towards his now Famous ‘Black Prince’. He purchased this Standard 9F class 92203 locomotive for £3,000 in 1967 from British Rail.
Black Prince became a record holder when in September 1982 it hauled the heaviest train ever by a steam locomotive in Britain, starting an incredible 2,178 ton train at a Foster Yeoman quarry in Somerset.
This is one of two new paintings by Midsomer Norton artist, Roger, who has also produced a scene from Chilcompton Station in September 1963, which shows train enthusiasts watching as a 75071 BR STD 4 4-6-0 Locomotive resumes the journey from Bournemouth towards Bath.
Roger will be producing prints of both paintings. For details, email: [email protected] or call: 01761 411842.
