Up to 130 homes could be built on farmland in a “logical extension” to Paulton.

Gladman Developments wants to build on a 7.4-hectare site off Farrington Road and says 30 per cent of the properties would be affordable.

More than 80 people have already objected just days after B&NES Council registered the application.

Kate Low said: “Paulton village is already fit to burst. The school is oversubscribed, there are long waiting times at the doctors and the roads are very congested with heavy traffic.

“Our village can not cope with more housing. We need to keep our beautiful green spaces.”

Steve Baggaley said in his objection: “The volume of traffic already travelling through the Farrington Rd / Downsway is becoming somewhat dangerous – this development will only just increase the likelihood of a serious accident.

“Why isn’t Gladman looking for brownfield sites to build on, not our countryside?”

Andy Ferris said: “The overdevelopment of Paulton must come to an end. This once community driven, thriving village now is over capacity for the facilities, amenities and provisions for this village.

“Paulton is full. Please stop. Save our village.”

Ward Councillors Grant Johnson and Liz Hardman have branded the developers “chancers” and said they would “fight this all the way”.

Gladman said the homes would help to tackle the national housing crisis by “providing new homes for real people who are in real need now”.

It said in its application: “The site is a logical extension to Paulton. It is a sustainable location being situated within walking distance of local facilities, services and public transportation links.”
