Residents in the area of Millards Hill, Welton, say they are concerned that a planning application to build two three-bed houses in the gardens of two properties will further aggravate parking issues in the area, should it be approved by Bath and North East Somerset Council.

Residents are so concerned about the plans, that a neighbourhood group has been formed and Town Councillors and the Ward Councillor, Barry Macrae, are now looking at the application and will submit their comments to the local authority.

Cllr Macrae said this week that he would be pushing for a site meeting for B&NES to attend. “In our opinion, this site has major issues, especially regarding access, parking and overdevelopment, and will have an impact upon various close neighbouring properties, plus it is the overdevelopment of yet another green space.”

Residents say there is insufficient parking for more housing in the area, with

concerns of privacy, blocking out sunlight, drainage issues and the filling of more green space. One resident said that on-street parking was ‘verging on the impossible’, with tensions rising over residents in the Wellow Brook Court allegedly not using

the allocated spaces that were provided with the development.

B&NES’ Highways Officer has recommended refusal due to access issues, but acknowledged that the plans have enough parking and are in a sustainable location within the housing development boundary. There have been no objections made by the drainage and flooding team.

A decision is due on 19th September and comments for or against can be made via B&NES Council’s planning portal using the application number: 16/03721/FUL.
