A goal from Chris Midgley eight minutes into the second half was enough to see Timsbury Athletic gain a crucial 1-0 home win against Minehead in the UHlsport Somerset County League Division One.
The game took a while to get going and it was 15 minutes before either side created a reasonable chance with Ebner Heatley shooting just wide for the home side. Heatley who had a lively game up front then caused problems for the visitors with a telling cross that they cleared with difficulty before shooting wide once more himself. It was 33 minutes before Minehead threatened with Ashton Tucker saving well from a Sam Bruford-Harley free-kick. At the other end Ellis Hancock was soon in the thick of the action heading over from a Tim Midgley cross and then heading wide from a Heatley centre. In rare dangerous moment at the other end Ellis Shaw headed over from a Guy Burns corner.
In a lively start to the second half Rob Vickers shot well over the top for the visitors from distance while Hancock was wide for Timsbury. It was Hancock, however, who created the pivotal moment slipping the ball through to Midgley who finished well despite Minehead keeper Kyran Wilkins getting a hand to his shot. A Tim Midgley effort was then blocked at the near post as the home side played some delightful creative football while Burns had a clear chance for the visitors which Tucker dealt with competently. Heatley came perilously close to adding a second goal for the home side but Michael Nield was on hand to clear the goalbound effort off the line. As the tension mounted Timsbury were forced deeper and deeper into their own half but for the second match in a row their defence performed with resilience with Jesse Bishop outstanding at the back for the home side. A large slice of stoppage time gave Minehead hope but it was Timsbury who took the honours and who made light of the absence of several key players.
