On Saturday, 11th March, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., St Mary’s Primary School in Timsbury is hosting its first Science Fair. This will be an exciting free event open to everyone in the community – you don’t need to be a pupil or a parent of a pupil at St Mary’s to come along.
The event is aimed at primary school children but will be of interest to everyone. Doors open 10 a.m. and things kick off with a live Chemistry Demo from Dr Andrew Ross from the University of Bath. Andrew holds the Guinness World Record for the fastest production of ice cream, he will show how this is done! Then there are 14 stalls to explore in an interactive way. Find out what is inside the human body, what do owls eat, what happens to our household rubbish and recycling, learn about the good and bad bugs around us, germinate an orchid, build a boat then test it, see a real racing car up close and meet the team that built it. Plus lots more! There is a PTA run ‘Science Café’ selling snacks and drinks – all profits to the PTA. There is an opportunity in the café to talk to real research scientists who will explain their work in a straightforward way. There is also free face painting. The winners of the St Mary’s Science Challenge will also be announced and awarded their prizes at 12:50pm before the close at 1 p.m.
It is a busy day in Timsbury with Seedy Saturday also on at the Conygre hall, so local people are asked to walk to the science fair to reduce the parking burden. For those from further afield there will be parking on the school playground, please follow the instructions of the car park helpers.
