CELEBRATIONS marking the 80th anniversary of VJ Day and the end of the Second World War will be taking place across the Somer Valley on Friday August 15.

VJ day marks the effective end of the Second World War following the surrender of Japan, as opposed to VE day which celebrates the end of the war in Europe.

Reverend Guy Scott will lead a short service in Midsomer Norton organised by the Royal British Legion. Taking place at 11am, there will be prayers read for those who served in the Second World War and today, a two minute silence, and a laying of a wreath.

Radstock will also be having a similar service take place later at 2pm by Radstock War Memorial, also organised by the Royal British Legion.
