Timsbury Cricket Club will be under new management next season. Both the Chairman, Andrew Jeffery, and Captain, Mark Sage, announced at the club's annual presentation night at the Conygre Hall that they are standing down.
In his final speech as Chairman, Andrew Jeffery looked back on a disappointing playing season which had seen the club relegated from the West of England Premier League. He praised the Captain for all the efforts he had put in to keep the club up, but said that the league tables don't lie.
He said, "It is no good dwelling on the past and the club must look forward to new challenges. Over the years, we have punched above our weight as a village club, but there is no reason why we can't succeed in the future. Club cricket everywhere seems to be in decline, but there are small clubs who have bucked the trend and there is noreason why we can't emulate them.
"I have considered it an honour to be Chairman, but they have been difficult times. I have taken particular satisfaction in keeping the youth section going and there was a strong turnout at their presentation ceremony. The Cricket Force Day was a big success."
The Captain said that the season had got off to a disappointing start, with a poor turnout at nets and it had continued through a difficult campaign. He also emphasised the need to look forward and said that at least a number of young players had gained valuable experience. He praised the work of Second Team Captain, Ben Curtis, and Third Team Skipper, Ashley Davis. Despite having to spend countless hours trying to put sides out in the field, Davis had retained his enthusiasm and was always positive. Sage too thanked those who had worked hard for the club and said that he was just sad that his final year as Captain had ended with relegation.
Flowers were presented to Eve Bird, Rita Day, Betty Newth and Cheryl Bradley, in recognition of their contributions to the club.
