Ashton & Backwell 0 Paulton Rovers 4

Ed Butcher's run down played to Dave O'Hare, whose square to Kyle Tooze brought a fine save low down by keeper Lewis Coombs. Tooze then hit the side netting.

Charlie Saunders' effort was held by Aaron Sainsbury on the day before the Rovers’ stopper celebrated his twenty first birthday.

Paulton took the lead on twenty seven minutes as Dan Dempsey won the ball in midfield, laid the ball to Butcher and Tooze fired home.

It was 2-0 four minutes later as Tooze burst down the left and his low cross destined for youngster Kai Williamson was turned into his own net by a home defender.

Only three minutes had elapsed as Paulton went further ahead as James Byrne’s long ball was fastened onto by Butcher who drove home with a fire cracker of a shot giving Coombs no chance.

The second half resumed with numerous changes as the hosts pressed forward but in truth Sainsbury was rarely troubled.

Dan Cottle and Butcher had shot wide and then the goal of the game came on fifty five minutes.

Martin Lenihan broke forward and still in his own half saw Coombs off his line and chipped home from fully fifty five yards to make it 4-0. Surely he will dine out on this goal for many a year.

Youth team player, Jack Jenkins, on his first team debut saw his fierce shot fisted away by Coombs and Tom Ovigne had a dipping volley that if it had been a bit lower would have trouble Coombs. There was another youth team player, Lewis Schwarbe-Goodwin, making his first step whilst Charlie Mclachan making his first start in the first team looked experience beyond his years.

This Saturday, 16th July, Rovers are home to Welsh League side, Goytre United from Port Talbot. Kick-off is at the earlier time of 1 pm at the visitors request.
